Members of the Local Government & Community Services committee identified multiple rule sections that may be inconsistent with Fairview Park’s current council structure and asked the law director for multiple reviews.
The committee asked Law Director Steve Deaver to review Rule 14 and Rule 54 to address overlapping committee jurisdictions and joint committee referrals. Members also debated whether council appointee terms (for Planning & Design and Parks & Recreation Commission assignments) should be tied to the legislative/organizational term after municipal elections. Deaver cautioned that planning bodies often benefit from continuity, but the committee asked him to prepare recommended language for appointments keyed to municipal election timing.
Separately, the committee discussed a provision that allows removal of a council member from a committee for failure to attend; several members said the rule likely reflects an older 13‑member structure and may be obsolete because current membership places all council members on every committee. The body voted 7–0 to ask Deaver to evaluate repercussions of removing that provision and return recommendations.
