Resident urges board to press city for safer crossings near Rock Springs Elementary

Stuart Reyes addressed the board during public comment, urging the district to work with the city on pedestrian safety at the intersection of Rock Springs Road, 7 Oaks Road and Bridal Road near Rock Springs Elementary: "I'm here tonight because I'm concerned about the safety of children crossing at Rock Springs Road, 7 Oaks Road, and Bridal Road near Rock Springs Elementary School in Escondido obviously," he said, describing fast traffic during drop-off and pick-up and noting a past fatality at that corner.
President Harper responded that the district has a traffic and school subcommittee that is coordinating with the city and that Rock Springs is already on a priority list of intersections under review. "We do have a traffic and we have a school subcommittee with the city and that's 1 of our top topics is the traffic, monitoring and also for the safe walks to school as well," President Harper said. The board said staff will follow up with city partners and monitor priority lists and available funds (including Proposition I allocations referenced by the board) to pursue improvements such as signals, flashing beacons or crossing guards.
