Committee delays decision on GIS server, asks for outsourced and in-house cost comparisons

The Henry County Administration Committee voted on May 12 to defer approval of a proposed GIS server until the committee's June meeting, saying members wanted more detailed cost and service comparisons before deciding. Member Jill Darin moved to hold the item over; Member Mike Rabas seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Director Rosemary Rathjen and Assessor Tracey Vinavich discussed the county's need for a GIS server and the trade-offs between keeping the service in-house and outsourcing it. The committee requested multiple follow-up items: quotes for on-site and virtual servers, outsourcing proposals with the total cost of services currently offered, licensing and hosting fee estimates, and comparator quotes from other counties that have outsourced GIS. Assessor Tracey Vinavich was asked to present a proposed GIS fee increase and cost-study comparisons at the June meeting.
