Village administrator Miss Lofton told council the RFI for electric and gas aggregation closed two weeks ago with two regional providers responding. "We were gonna be 2 responses, 1 from NOPEC, 1 from SOPEC," she said; "NOPEC did provide potential rates, whereas SOPEC did not."
Miss Lofton summarized the analysis as preliminary and limited to a small sample of recent resident usage: potential residential savings appear to be modest — "a few dollars a month" — and vary by utility territory (the village’s AEP customers were more likely to see savings in the sample than Ohio Edison customers). She recommended bringing both consultants to a future meeting for questions about contract length, cancellation or opt-out procedures, and the expected administrative workload for village staff, especially during program launch.
Council members stressed clear opt-out communications. One councilor reminded the body that aggregation is an opt-out program and recommended strong advance notice so residents do not feel coerced. Staff said vendors will provide customer service, but the village should expect to field some initial calls and to direct residents who want to opt out. No final decision or contract award was made; staff will schedule consultant interviews and circulate clarifying questions.
