NJGPA results: 79% met the ELA pathway; district outlines multi-year math curriculum work

Rich Fastnock, director of funded programs, presented the district's NJGPA data, reporting that about 79% of students met the ELA graduation pathway this past year after a spike to 84.2% the previous year. "This past year, we're at approximately 79 percent of our students that have met the ELA pathway," Fastnock said, and he laid out assessment-pathway options for students who do not meet NJGPA cut scores (PSAT, SAT, ACCUPLACER, and a portfolio appeal).
Officials acknowledged mathematics remains a challenge across the district: historic math proficiency numbers were cited (46% in 2023, 49% in 2024 and roughly 48% this year). Administrators described a multi-year effort to realign algebra 1 and geometry curricula, create common unit assessments and convene teacher teams to revise pacing and standards alignment. They also identified that economically disadvantaged students, multilingual learners and Hispanic students are among the groups that need targeted supports, and described MTSS-tiered interventions, after-school supports and flexible basic-skills programming.
