Senate adopts committee changes to allow post-marriage prenuptial amendments; HF940 passed unanimously

Senator Bussello presented House File 940, a bill that allows spouses to amend a prenuptial agreement in writing after solemnization so long as both parties agree. He described Judiciary committee amendment 5-005 as striking a division and updating the implementation date from 2025 to 2026. "This just deals with the law that will be governing premarital agreements saying that they are governed and enforceable only under chapter 59650 code," the sponsor said during opening remarks.
Senator Bussello moved committee amendment 5-005 and a follow-up amendment was adopted in sequence; the amendments were adopted by voice. On final reading the Senate recorded 45 ayes and 0 nays; the bill passed and will be messaged to the House.
