Council asks county auditor for revenue estimates on three fire and EMS levy options

Safety Director Dan Chafin told Council the three resolutions are resolutions of necessity to request certified tax valuation and revenue estimates from the Medina County Auditor. He outlined three alternatives under consideration: renew the fire levy with a reduction from 1.5 to 0.75 mills, renew with a reduction to 0.50 mills, or renew the EMS levy by increasing the current 3.0 mills to 4.0 mills.
Chafin stressed that ‘‘these resolutions do not place any levy on the ballot. Instead, they merely begin the statutory process by requesting certified valuation figures,’’ and said the County Auditor’s official valuation will inform whether any option proceeds to a later ‘‘Resolution to Proceed’’ for the November ballot. Chafin also noted timing: a fire levy approved by voters would take effect in 2027 while an EMS levy would take effect in 2028. Council voted to suspend rules and move the items forward to be called at the regular meeting.
