Rabbi urges Dillon council to restore civility, dignity in public meetings

Rabbi Joel Schwartzman, who identified himself as living at 220 East Levante Street, told the council he had watched prior meetings and feared the town's public image was suffering. He said he had come "in the hopes of encouraging my council members to aim higher," warning against public displays of sarcasm or rancor that he said hurt the town's reputation.
"It's time to put on our big boy and big girl pants, and put Dillon above all other things," Schwartzman said, urging council members to consider consequences of their statements and to act with dignity. He said he did not want to know particulars of past disputes but pleaded for cooperation and restraint. The council thanked him for coming and acknowledged his remarks.
