City advances new plan for Lower South Street sewer pumping station; engineering amendment proposed

The city’s water superintendent, Dave Rambo, updated council on an amended plan for the Lower South Street sewer pumping station originally tied to a 2021 grant of $750,000. County officials told staff there is insufficient capacity to connect at the current Water Street routing, so staff is proposing a revised alignment that runs under the railroad and along the riverfront to connect to the Westchester County pumping station.
Rambo said Hudson Engineering has proposed additional survey and engineering work (a proposed amendment of approximately $42,300) to test routes, elevations and whether an open-channel (gravity) option or a closed force main is feasible. He told the committee the change would free capacity on existing lines and create opportunity for new development in the southern waterfront area. Staff will pursue additional grant opportunities and coordinate with Metro-North and Westchester County as the design proceeds.
