Committee approves sending government-surplus auction resolution to council

Assistant Director Mike Testa presented a resolution authorizing the sale of surplus personal property, including tools, equipment and retired water-meter endpoints, via internet auction in 2026. Testa said the city experimented with a consignment auction for vehicles while the traditional GovernmentSurplus.com site will be used for smaller equipment; he noted "these collected end of life endpoints numbered about 10,000."
Council Member Berger moved and Council Member Maxwell seconded a motion to move the resolution to the full council agenda for three readings; the motion carried unanimously. Testa reminded listeners that auction winners pick up items "as is" and that buyer fees are applied by the auction vendors.
