Council hears Council on Aging report; senior‑center activities and Medicare help announced

Cynthia Terrell, director of the Council on Aging, briefed the council on FY26 services and upcoming programming. "We served over 1,400 people, over 23,000 instances, in f y 26," Terrell said, listing van transportation, day trips, exercise participation and benefits counseling as major services. She said the annual report will be available on the department website at the end of the month.
Terrell announced that in September — National Senior Center Month — all in‑center activities and rides to/from the senior center will be free. She also reminded residents that Medicare open enrollment runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 and highlighted SHINE counselor support for unbiased benefits counseling. The council thanked the senior-center staff and volunteers and encouraged residents to contact the center for program information.
