City will remove dilapidated play structure; council explores replacement options and grants

Council members discussed the dilapidated wooden play structure on the east side of City Park and directed its removal; Operations Director Doug Hembry said it "would be removed in the next 2 weeks." Griggs reported he has contacted playground companies about new or used equipment and said he will bring information and possible grant options for purchasing and installing replacement play equipment to the next meeting.
Members discussed reuse or relocation and mentioned grant opportunities as a possible funding source for new equipment. Council did not approve a purchase or contractor at the July 20 meeting; it limited action to removal of the unsafe structure and to collecting vendor and grant information for a future decision.
