President Knight moved to establish a temporary ad hoc board subcommittee on enrollment growth and innovation after a presentation by district staff and the district demographer showed continuing declines in student counts. The subcommittee is intended to meet occasionally over the next year to analyze data and develop strategies to recruit and retain students in the district.
The motion was seconded and board members discussed membership and format; the board agreed to allow rotating participation so all trustees can provide input. President Knight said the subcommittee’s purpose is to take “a deeper dive into the data and to develop ideas…about what we can do to increase the number of students in our district.” Student board members also voted aye during the roll call.
The subcommittee will begin with the longer demography report from MGT and report back to the full board with recommendations. Staff said the first subcommittee meeting could focus on the full demographer analysis and that the district would circulate the longer MGT report following the meeting.
