The Long Prairie City Council on Nov. 12 accepted a $40,000 Sourcewell grant to make repairs to the Long Prairie Senior Center and approved a minimum city contribution of $10,000 to complete the work. Council Member Gabrier Perez noted the grant was accepted and suggested exploring donated contractor labor and volunteer time to stretch the funds.
Naomi Walrath, speaking during public comment on behalf of the senior center board, said volunteers “can continue to operate the Senior Center through 2026” and asked council to prioritize roof repair, insulation and replacement of a broken window. City Administrator Candace Bruder said staff and senior-center volunteers will coordinate a plan to use the grant funds effectively. The motion to accept the Sourcewell grant and the city match passed unanimously.
