Harvey County approves $28,682 fingerprint machine for detention center

The Harvey County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 12 authorized the county sheriff to purchase a replacement digital fingerprinting machine for the Detention Center for $28,682.85.
Sheriff Chad Gay and Jail Captain Brian Huntley asked the commission to waive the standard purchasing policy and approve a HID system. According to the staff recommendation included with the agenda, "Staff recommends the Commission waive the purchasing policy and allow us to move forward with the replacement of the fingerprint machine using HID for a total cost of $28,682.85." Commissioners voted unanimously to waive policy, approve the purchase and grant the Sheriff authority to sign the contract.
The county report says the purchase will be paid from the Offender Registration fund rather than general tax dollars. The agenda packet identified the HID quote and implementation line items totaling $28,682.85 and listed on-site implementation and maintenance components.
The commission’s motion was made by Commissioner Terry Scott and seconded by Commissioner Becky Reimer. The meeting minutes record the action as passed unanimously.
