Whitman County secures Commerce grant to fund solar/BESS and CAO updates

Assistant Planner Grace Di Biase told the Commission that the Washington State Department of Commerce has confirmed year-two grant funding to support consultant work on solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) ordinance development, natural resource code drafting, and Critical Areas Ordinance modifications.
“We have confirmation from the Washington State Department of Commerce that funding shall be available under the year two, periodic update grant,” Grace said. Staff and commissioners discussed contract timing and expect consultants to begin work and attend the September meeting, with Kimley-Horn (consultant team) anticipated to assist on ordinance development using grant funds.
