Whitman County planner Alan Thomson to retire after 24 years

Alan Thomson, Whitman County’s planner for the past 24 years, told the Planning Commission at its July 1 meeting that he will retire effective Aug. 31.
“This will be my last Planning Commission meeting. I am retiring as of August 31,” Thomson said, announcing his decision and reflecting that “twenty-four years I think is enough.” Colleagues and county officials offered public thanks: Public Works Director Mark Storey called Thomson’s service “exemplary” and said Thomson has protected private property rights and helped inform the Board of County Commissioners. Multiple commissioners thanked Thomson and wished him well.
