Board approves AI acceptable‑use addendum to district policy

The board voted unanimously to add an Artificial Intelligence addendum to the district’s Acceptable Use Policy after the AI Taskforce and Technology Director Matt Jardin prepared the language. Superintendent Miguel Barriga described the addendum as a framework emphasizing ethical use, transparency and staff/student training.
The policy requires student/parent acknowledgement forms and sets out acceptable and prohibited AI uses, including permitting AI for research and editing while prohibiting AI to complete assignments intended as a student’s original work. The district will provide training for staff and students and expects to revisit the policy as technology and guidance evolve.
