Durham highlights reentry services and new employer pilot with Duke during 2nd Chance Month recognition

Officials from the Justice Services Department presented plans for 2nd Chance Month and highlighted an ongoing focus on reentry supports and workforce connections. Robin Heath, assistant director of Justice Services, outlined planned activities including a reentry panel, resource fair and community events designed to raise awareness and connect returning residents with services.
Roshana Humphreys and Andy Myrtle described early work with Duke University human resources: Duke executives visited Justice Services to explore a pilot program to hire justice‑involved individuals. "We were visited...by four senior human resource executives from Duke to talk about a pilot project with us to help to bring justice involved individuals into jobs at Duke," staff said. Commissioners and staff said the partnership could create employment pathways and that the county will continue to coordinate workforce supports with Durham Tech and other partners.
Commissioners urged ongoing attention to services that support reentry, including housing, job training and the Justice Resource Center's programs.
