At the May 6 meeting, student trustee Tessa Osegueta told trustees she was told on April 22 that her calculus teacher's contract would not be renewed and warned that the decision could discourage students from continuing in the AP calculus sequence.
Osegueta asked the board to use a combination of teacher evaluations, student-success and retention data, and seniority when deciding contract renewals, and to incorporate student feedback into formal teacher evaluations. "A strong education depends on strong teachers," she said, urging the board to prioritize what is best for students when making staffing choices.
