Union representative tells Kane County board staff have waited two years for a contract

Pat O'Gorman, a business representative for Operating Engineers Local 399, used his three-minute public comment slot to tell the Kane County Board that in-house facilities employees have been certified for two years without a collective bargaining agreement. "We are hoping to avoid any sort of job action or labor dispute with the county," he said, and urged the county to treat direct employees equitably with contractors.
O'Gorman said the union has repeatedly offered training programs, including coursework up to an associate's degree, and asked why progress has stalled, noting the union had to file charges with the Illinois Labor Relations Board to secure meetings. The chair and several board members later discussed requiring more frequent reporting from the labor-management committee and scheduling an executive session next week for committee updates.
