Classified union urges larger wage increases at Corning Union High board meeting

Doug Verner, speaking as president of the district’s classified unit, told the board the group “is the backbone of the district” and urged larger contract increases after last year’s settlement. He said members feel the 0.75% settlement last year was insufficient and that the union is seeking 5% this year and 3% next year, while offering an alternative proposal of 3% this year and 2% next year.
The board did not act on wages during the meeting. Verner said the union will participate in an impasse meeting next Tuesday and “will take legal action if needed.” The comment came under the public‑comment item; Superintendent Miguel Barriga did not offer a commitment to reopen talks during the public session.
