El Monte Union board honors Alma Puente after appointment to LA County Superior Court

Superintendent Dr. Zuniga summarized Puente's legal career, noting her practice in immigration law, federal service assisting citizenship cases and congressional liaison work, and prior service as an El Monte council member and mayor pro tempore. "Her appointment is an inspiration and an example for our students and the community," Dr. Zuniga said.
Judge Puente told the audience she shares the honor with the community that raised and supported her, saying recognition matters most for the young people watching: "When they see someone who looks like them ... it tells them you belong in these spaces too." Board members and student trustees described Puente as a role model for Latina students and invited her to return for career-day events.
