Background-check renewals behind schedule; DHHS says backlog is being cleared

Daphne (background processing) acknowledged the office had fallen months behind on background-check renewals because of process refinement and prioritization of initial checks earlier in the year. "We are about 12 days out and waiting for some of those, results," she said when asked whether fingerprint results or the federal government shutdown were delaying results.
Daphne said the office has started tackling the renewal backlog and that catching up may take a couple more months, while system development work aims to remove duplicate provider steps (for example, reducing the need for providers to email confirmations after roster verification). She emphasized that when providers have completed verification steps but the department has not yet updated the Direct Access Clearance system, there should be no immediate licensing penalty while the office processes updates in order.
Providers were advised to continue verifying rosters, to email verification as instructed until system automations are complete, and to contact the background-processing office if renewals appear stalled.
