Fairgrounds manager defends operations, says foundation "has nothing to do with the Fair Board"

Patty Dursteler, the county's Fairgrounds Manager, read a prepared statement in open session responding to allegations raised at an April 21 meeting. Dursteler addressed hiring decisions, employee hours, staffing levels, crab feed billing, liquor-license compliance and the physical condition of the fairgrounds; she told the board she "will not discuss the Fair Foundation, as they have nothing to do with the Fair Board."
Dursteler also stated the fairgrounds have received about $500,000 in grants to improve facilities. After her remarks she requested the matter be discussed in executive session; the Board recessed at 10:55 a.m. under RCW 42.30.110(1)(f) and reconvened at 11:16 a.m. The minutes do not include the executive-session content or additional findings that explain the basis for the later dismissal action.
