Angie Pena, director of the Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD), told providers the division's newly awarded change-management contract has started and that partners have been invited to a steering committee. "This contract is really focusing on how to strengthen and improve our system to mitigate abuse, neglect, and exploitation," she said.
Angie said the steering committee includes representatives from providers, support coordinators and families and that the department sought volunteers to ensure diverse input. She described the time commitment as about twice a month for roughly six months and invited providers to reach out to participate. The initiative will also focus on employment supports for people with lived experience and create channels for provider feedback.
Angie encouraged providers to participate in the collaborative safety webinar she noted was scheduled for 1 p.m. immediately after the call and said the department will follow up with steering-committee membership details.
