Early Intervention and Child Find served hundreds in 2025; waitlists persist

Meghan Sedorus, coordinator for programs serving children with special needs, presented 2025 program statistics showing substantial service volume and ongoing waitlists.
"In 2025 the Child Find program supported 123 children through developmental surveillance. The Early Intervention program processed 250 referrals and served 302 children who qualified through the evaluation process. Of those 302 children 81 children received two or more services. There were 114 that remained on a waitlist for services due to the continuing statewide provider shortage," Sedorus reported. Preschool Special Education conducted 200 psychological/social evaluations and an additional 597 supplemental evaluations; 288 children were actively receiving services and 95 students remained on a waitlist.
Sedorus also said the Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs program provided 31 referrals in 2025 and hosted seven community events attended by 269 children, supported by grant funding. The statistics point to continuing demand for early-childhood special-needs services and persistent statewide provider shortages that leave families waiting for services.
