Transportation committee moves multiple purchases, engineering agreements; salt price spike noted

Commissioner Tepe, presenting for the transportation committee, read 12 items for approval. Major items included a motor-fuel-tax appropriation for ice-control salt for Sugar Grove Township (no county-finance impact), purchase of a Palma 720T boom mower for the Division of Transportation ($75,504), a Vermeer track mini-skid ($75,031), traffic-county data collection engineering services ($120,850), and a supplemental overpass agreement with Union Pacific ($51,920). Tepe also moved a three-year permit-software contract implementation ($69,750) and a $300,000 on-call phase-3 engineering services agreement; several items were described as in-budget and were approved on roll call.
Tepe warned the board that road salt "this year not only has the price increased dramatically, but there were many bids that went without any responses." He said the shortage and price increases will affect many communities statewide and asked colleagues to note potential budget impacts and procurement constraints. The board approved the transportation items as presented.
