City manager: airport runway paved, Build Kansas grant notice, CSO project starting next month

City manager Mark Westhoff told the commission that the airport runway paving is complete and that the city will finish towing runway lights, navigational aids and FAA testing before declaring the runway operational. "The runway at the airport is now paved," Westhoff said, and staff plan a ribbon-cutting when key systems are in place.
Westhoff also reported the city received a notice of intent to award $16,188 from Build Kansas toward the airport apron and taxi lane rehabilitation and that a Department of Commerce certificate closed out the Elephant Park project. He said the long-planned South Headworks CSO-related project is scheduled to begin next month, city crews will perform alleyway overlays and the city will work with Atchison County Road & Bridge to grade a gravel street (P Street East of 2nd Street) inside city limits. Budget workshops and hearings are scheduled through September and the proposed numbers will be published in the Atchison Globe on Aug. 14.
