The Salina Heritage Commission voted to postpone consideration of application CA26002, which seeks permission to replace six second-floor windows on the west (Santa Fe Avenue) elevation of the Fox Watson Stiefel Theater, until Friday, Aug. 28 at 3:00 p.m.
Chair Martin made the motion to postpone to allow the applicant and staff to confirm an appropriate exterior window color and obtain physical samples. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously by the members present. "Then I would make a motion to, postpone the consideration of the application to, determine additional information that's needed for the, color of the exterior windows," Chair Martin said during the hearing. Commissioners and staff agreed the continuance would avoid re-advertising the hearing if a date is set at the public meeting and would allow the applicant to deliver a Pella color swatch or a larger chip for on-site comparison.
Why it matters: staff and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) agreed the existing sash units are deteriorated and replacement is likely appropriate, but commissioners wanted a clearer, visible match to the building's historic finish before approving a final exterior color. The postponement gives the applicant time to provide a product sample that staff can compare to the existing masonry sills and historic photos. The decision will resume publicly at the Aug. 28 meeting at 3:00 p.m. in the city hearing room.
