Committee member summarizes parcel-split trends and Land Information Council findings

Committee member gave the Planning Commission an overview of a recent Land Information Council meeting and shared county parcel-split trends through 2025. "So, the land information council meets quarterly and at our last meeting, which was last week, Tuesday, the main topic being addressed was about the land division discussion that's being had at the Planning Commission," the Committee member said, noting the council had invited affected staff to participate in follow-up discussions.
Chair summarized the raw counts and the shifting trend in smaller splits: "So, like, for under 5 acres in 2020, it was a 104 for 2025 and went down to 60," the Chair said. Commissioners asked staff to circulate printed copies of the compiled data and the Committee member said the dataset includes two views: countywide totals and township-level breakdowns, which showed the highest rate of <5-acre splits in the Town of Franklin, Genoa, the Town of Jefferson and Viroqua. The Commission agreed the township view will help align ordinance discussion with the county comprehensive plan.
