During the public participation portion of the Aug. 20 Carneys Point Township Committee meeting, several residents raised longstanding neighborhood concerns and asked for follow-up from municipal staff.
Shirley Roussey and her husband said they paid over $2,000 to trim trees after a dead tree on a neighboring property fell on their vehicle; Mayor Brown said code enforcement and the property owner had been contacted. Multiple residents questioned why storm drains had not been cleaned on schedule; Mr. Pelura said Public Works would look into the schedule. Several residents questioned recent assessment-driven tax increases; Mr. Pelura explained that reassessments bring properties to 100% of assessed value and advised individuals to consult the assessor, Kathleen Hill.
The Vatri family of Johnson Ave. described ongoing nuisance conduct by a neighbor they say has included indecent behavior and the illegal dumping of fish on the roadway; they said repeated municipal complaints have not resolved the problem. Chief D. VanNamee advised complainants to provide detailed incident information and noted some disputes may be civil matters better addressed through private counsel; Solicitor A. Telsey reiterated the option to pursue legal remedies when appropriate.
