Carneys Point refers cannabis zoning amendments to Planning Board

The Carneys Point Township Committee voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 2025-166, referring Ordinance 1074—an amendment to Chapter 212 addressing definitions and uses in agricultural and rural residential districts related to medical and adult-use cannabis—to the Planning Board for review.
Mr. Pelura explained the change reflects that the township previously allowed some cannabis activity before statewide legalization and now seeks to adjust agricultural-district language. "When the Township decided to allow for cannabis it was still not legal but we had to put something in place then," he said, noting the amendments are focused on agricultural districts and do not change distribution rules.
The referral was made by motion of Mr. Bomba, seconded by Mr. Pelura, and carried unanimously. The Planning Board will review the ordinance and report back to the Committee according to the municipal review process.
