Township adopts amendment allowing truck/trailer parking and fuel stations on Rt. 40 despite resident objections

The Committee adopted Ordinance 1073 to amend the Carneys Point Redevelopment Plan for Block 267 Lots 12 and 12.04 (Rt. 40/Barnyard and Friendly Tavern area) to allow a truck and trailer parking and storage facility, three fueling stations, and a possible driver lounge with restrooms and showers.
Attorney Clint Allen described the amendment and said the site might also include a driver lounge with restrooms and showers. During public comment Amy Tighe of Harding Highway asked, "what are you all doing to this community. There is no open space in this community now. Put something there that helps the area such as a grocery store." The Committee moved to adopt the ordinance and recorded a unanimous vote.
Officials did not change the ordinance in response to the public comment during the meeting; the adoption proceeds under the amendment as introduced. The minutes record the resident plea for alternative community uses but show the ordinance adopted as presented.
