Trustee urges formal beekeeping rule updates; violation letters to go out

Terri Baker reported during the Zoning and Code Enforcement update that she spoke with the regional director of the Illinois Beekeepers Association, who offered no single acreage recommendation for residential beekeeping.
Terri told the board that other villages and townships have enacted ordinances limiting the number of hives on private residential property and that moving swarms from other locations legally requires State inspection before relocation. She said violation letters will be sent to properties in violation and recommended the board work on a fine schedule.
Resident Alice Dailey commented that Rose Estates does have bees in that subdivision. The board did not adopt an ordinance at the meeting; Terri said staff will prepare violation notices and draft fine guidance for future consideration.
