The council authorized an easement with the American Legion to install and maintain a kayak and canoe launch at the ball field along French Creek. The minutes state the installation will be funded with grants from the PA Fish and Boat Commission and the PA Environmental Council; Solicitor Tim Wachter will draft the easement. The motion to approve the easement was made by Councilor Osborn and seconded by Councilor Joyce and carried unanimously.
Separately, Borough Manager Cindy Wells gave project updates: the TA Set-Aside sidewalk project is ongoing and Erie County Planning will hold a kickoff for park and trail improvements (Devereaux Day) Sept. 13. The council agreed to assist the Union City Volunteer Fire Department with demolition of a shed at 10 Market Street without providing the requested backhoe (Public Works will help by other means). The council also agreed to change regular meeting days to the first and third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. from September through April 2025 (next meetings noted: Aug. 27 and Sept. 16).
