Police Chief David Pernice briefed council on departmental activity and training Aug. 13, saying the department handled 269 calls between June 1 and Aug. 13—"averaging about 3.63 calls per day." He noted the variety of incidents, including vehicle pursuits, PFAs, warrants, domestic incidents, drug activity, homelessness, and recent suicide and mental-health calls; he also cited a domestic call that ran from 8:50 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Chief Pernice reported that he and Officer Shelly attended Alert Active Shooter training on July 24–25 hosted by Millcreek Police Department and called the training "very beneficial." He said the department applied to the Union City Community Foundation (UCCF) for funding; UCCF awarded both requests: funding for four tasers and for security cameras to cover another section of North Main Street.
