The Borough of Union City voted unanimously Aug. 13 to hire Kenneth Fye from the certified civil service list as a part-time police officer. Councilors said a part-time hire will reduce costs compared with a full-time hire and help provide broader coverage; the motion was made by Councilor Matt Joyce and seconded by Councilor Osborn.
Mayor Robert Wolf had urged maintaining a borough police force and recommended hiring a part-time officer during the meeting. Borough Manager Cindy Wells told council the budget had allowed at least $33,560 for wages and benefits and that actual cost "would depend on the number of hours they worked." The council recorded the motion as carried unanimously.
