OCHA: tens of thousands returning; border closed but some aid trucks are crossing

Olga Charevko told reporters that large numbers of Afghans are returning or being deported from neighboring countries and that reception centres at crossing points provide some basic services. "Just, in, last month, actually, around 44,000 people, I believe, came back from Pakistan alone," she said, noting many returnees arrive without prospects for work or livelihoods.
When asked about border access, Charevko said the Torkham crossing remains closed but that UN agencies have coordinated with relevant authorities and stakeholders so that aid continues to reach people in need. "Several, 100 trucks have, crossed over the the the past, days or weeks rather," she said, adding that reception centres offer limited assistance while communities are overstretched.
