OCHA says Afghanistan humanitarian plan badly underfunded; funding "alarming"

Olga Charevko said donors have provided far less than required for the humanitarian response. "The requirement is around 1 1710000000. And, we have only just received, just over 20, 6% of the required funding, and, we are already in August," she said, calling the funding gap alarming given worsening indicators such as malnutrition.
In answer to questions from reporters, Charevko repeated that humanitarian assistance alone cannot solve structural problems and said the shortfall constrains prevention and services such as nutrition, health and unexploded-ordnance clearance. She urged wider and quicker donor support so field actors can sustain life-saving operations and begin medium-term recovery programming.
