Council approves $324,000 contract to replace Christiansen Field fencing and dugouts

Recreation Superintendent Nate Schwonke told the council that Christiansen Field fencing and dugouts, some of which are 30–40 years old, need replacement for safety and usability. He said the bid package drew 11 bidders and staff recommended awarding the contract to Mower Fence Company LLC for an amount not to exceed $324,000, with an optional $50,000 upgrade to black vinyl‑coated fencing for corrosion resistance.
Schwonke noted that some dugouts have block construction that becomes dangerously hot in summer and that some pole footings are failing. Council voted to approve the contract 7–0. "Christensen is probably one of the most heavily utilized and definitely ready for an upgrade," a council member said after visiting the site.
