Town staff presented Ordinance 2026‑3 to create through‑truck restrictions and regulate engine‑brake (jake‑brake) use on certain routes, including South Adams (West 50 South), North Van Buren Street and South Van Buren Street between specified corporate limits and Washington Street. Staff said the ordinance clarifies existing engine‑brake language and covers routes where complaints have been received.
The staff member said signs would be posted to mark restricted routes and enumerated common exemptions — local deliveries, vehicles accessing property within the restricted area, emergency and construction vehicles, and vehicles operating pursuant to a lawful detour. The staff member also described enforcement provisions under the draft (a $100 fine for a first violation and $250 for a second) and asked the board to accept introduction and set a public hearing for next month. "Are, a $100 for 1st violation, $250 for 2nd violation..." the staff member said when explaining enforcement language.
A member moved to introduce the traffic ordinance, another member seconded, and the board voted in favor of introduction. Staff will advertise the ordinance and hold a public hearing at the next council meeting before final adoption.
