"No one is thrilled about this, but it has to be done," Mayor Wyatt said as council members expressed frustration that the issue was not addressed in early plans.
The council voted to close the adjacent parking spot and approved reducing the speed limit to 17 mph rather than the railroad's requested 15 mph. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with Councilmember Jeff Roberts recorded as the lone 'No' vote. Councilmembers emphasized the change was necessary to install crossing arms and widen the sidewalk for safety.
The decision directs staff to implement the parking closure and coordinate speed-limit signage and traffic control changes with the railroad and city traffic enforcement.
