Health department accepts $2,400 state grant to tackle vaccine hesitancy

The Vernon County Health Department accepted a $2,400 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to support vaccine‑hesitancy outreach, the department told the finance committee.
Health Department representative Amy said the county has historically low vaccination coverage in young children and that the grant will pay for a billboard campaign to encourage residents to "talk with their provider" and for related clinic signage. "So long story short, we had $2,400... because the state really liked our proposal," Amy said. The department intends to coordinate the billboard messaging with local clinics and the county vaccine coalition.
Committee members asked about outreach to Amish and homeschooling populations and how vaccination data are captured. Amy described the Wisconsin Immunization Registry as the source for vaccination data and said the county conducts home visits and works with local bishops and community contacts where appropriate. The motion to accept the grant was offered, seconded and carried by voice vote.
