Treasurer: new software migration caused some tax bills to be mailed to wrong addresses; online payment emphasized

Treasurer reported the county's bank balances and a series of delivery problems tied to a recent software migration that, staff said, reverted some addresses to older entries and led to misdirected tax bills. "So our balance at the bank at the end of January is $25,896,032.40," the Treasurer told the committee and then described mail and address-transfer issues that affected tax bill distribution.
The treasurer said data-transfer anomalies and postal delays produced a stack of delinquent accounts that may include taxpayers who thought they had mailed payments on time. The Treasurer urged residents who did not receive a bill to check online: "You can always go print it off online," the Treasurer said, and said they would post a notice on the treasurer's webpage advising people to contact the office if they had not received a bill. Committee members suggested adding a proactive web notice or other direct outreach.
Staff said they had already fixed issues that were brought to their attention but that unknown, unreported errors could persist until taxpayers contact the office; the treasurer recommended online payment as a reliable alternative.
