She said the top survey finding was that visitors valued the site as "a safe and enclosed space," and that play priorities were climbing and swings. Kent described surfacing preferences as 78% favoring rubber matting and 22% favoring playground turf.
Kent framed the project as three budget 'buckets' within an overall allocation of $450,000: site/ADA improvements, surfacing/matting, and equipment. She said initial engineering and ADA work will be bid, the matting will be procured via a buying collaborative to avoid a lengthy procurement for that item, and staff hope any savings on site work will increase the equipment budget so the town can provide more pieces for younger users. "We have an overall overriding budget of 450,000," Kent said, and she emphasized the goal of coordinating demolition, concrete work, equipment delivery and matting installation so the work can be completed efficiently.
