Ellen, a senior at Piedmont High School, told the Recreation Commission she would like to see a community day that captures the spirit of summer camp and pairs it with volunteer work and philanthropy. “I was thinking that we could capture some of that spirit, and, like, bring it to a larger community by having a day like that in for the larger Piedmont community,” she said during public comment.
The student suggested centering activities at a park with refreshments and family-friendly programming, and combining the event with a donation drive or a community project the town selects. She framed the idea as a way to build connections and encourage long-term stewardship: “...if members of our community are working to help preserve parts of the community or clean it up, they'll be more encouraged to keep it that way in the future.” The commission thanked her for the suggestion and moved on to other agenda items. There was no formal action or staff directive recorded at the meeting to advance the proposal.
