Subcommittee previews objective design standards open house; commissioners seek public input

The Planning Commission heard an informational briefing Feb. 10 from the objective design standards subcommittee, which has been testing draft "test-fit" properties to evaluate how objective design standards might function in Piedmont.
Staff said the subcommittee met Jan. 29 to review preliminary test fits and assess whether the selected properties and test formats yielded useful insight for drafting clear, objective design criteria. Commissioners DeJodia and Ortiz, who co-chair the subcommittee, said the test fits highlighted gaps such as pedestrian safety and parking considerations that objective standards should address. The subcommittee encouraged residents to attend a Feb. 12 open house at the community center starting at 6:00 p.m. to provide feedback.
No public speakers raised comments during the meeting's presentation of the subcommittee report. Staff emphasized that these are draft materials not yet ready for broad public distribution and that community input at the open house will inform next steps.
