Police report: 194 calls in two weeks, officer training milestones; council opens internal application for vacancy

Chief of Police Ryan Hanson provided the council with a two-week activity summary: the Long Prairie Police Department logged 194 calls between Oct. 8 and Oct. 22, 2025, averaging about 13.9 calls per day. The report enumerated categories including 83 traffic-related calls, 63 assists, and other incident types. Hanson noted professional milestones: Officer Lateshia Harden graduated from DARE Instructor school on Oct. 10 and Deanna Polzin reached her one-year anniversary with the department on Oct. 21. Officers Harden and Morazan are attending mental-health training paid for by a Todd County Health and Human Services grant.
Chief Hanson said he plans to coordinate Active Threat Response and Reunification training with LPGE Secondary School staff on Nov. 3, 2025. He also requested that the council open an internal hiring process for the full-time vacancy created by Officer Trevor Larson’s retirement (effective Nov. 26, 2025). Council Member Clint Krueger moved to open the internal application process; Council Member JoAnn Schroeder seconded and the motion was unanimously approved. The process will include a letter of interest and interviews with a selection expected prior to Larson’s retirement.
