Board approves AP Seminar for next year as district weighs implementation details

The board voted to add AP Seminar to next year’s course catalog after administrators and staff described the class and student/parent interest.
District presenters noted AP Seminar is an interdisciplinary research course that can lead into AP Research and ultimately the AP Capstone credential. "AP Seminar promotes critical thinking... students select a topic of interest," said a staff presenter. The district reported survey interest (about 55 responses) and said initial staffing and library access questions must be addressed. Board members and English-department faculty cautioned that AP Seminar is a demanding, research-heavy class and urged limited initial enrollment and clear communication about student readiness.
Teachers and school staff emphasized supports: reliable library access, counseling and clear guidance for sophomores and juniors considering the course. English-department member Beth Black urged a deliberate rollout and more time to build interdisciplinary projects before broad course registration. The board approved inclusion of AP Seminar in next year’s offerings and asked staff to return with details on staffing, enrollment limits and library/library-staff access.
